Usage-based Billing
with Digital Twins
Monetize IoT Data.
Control Processes more Efficiently.
Create New Services.
How does a digital twin use case become a productive platform for source-based waste management?
For the innotec New Service Platform, doubleSlash combines digital twins, event data and billing logic to create a productive platform. The result: Bulk and measurement data becomes reliable, source-based billing and creates the basis for monitoring, data quality and new services.
innotec is a service partner for the housing industry, businesses and local authorities with a focus on waste management. The company serves around 700,000 households in over 230 cities; more than 80,000 already use its own waste collection system.
With the innotec New Service Platform, the next step was to be taken: To record waste consumption more accurately, distribute costs more fairly and make operating data usable for new services. To achieve this, the billing logic, data flows, architecture and software development had to work together seamlessly.
Why Digital Twins Only Earn Money With Billing
Sensor technology alone does not create a digital business model. Even digital twins initially remain technical images if technical logic, data quality and billing do not work together.
This is precisely where the business leverage arises: usage and event data from devices, systems or locks must be processed in such a way that reliable processes, traceable billing and new services are created. In this way, a digital twin use case becomes more than just a technical project: it becomes the basis for usage-based billing and data-based business models.
This is how Innotec monetizes IoT data and creates the basis for the fairest waste billing in Germany:
Waste locks are digitally mapped.
Pouring and measurement data flows into an end-to-end process chain.
Consumption is recorded more accurately.
Costs are distributed according to actual usage.
Operating data creates transparency for monitoring, evaluations and other services.
To Implement Pay-Per-Use, Three Things Had to Come Together:
Vision, Business Logic and Technology
doubleSlash translated innotec's vision into a productive platform: requirements were structured, data flows were modeled and systems were connected in such a way that reliable billing could be created from bulk and measurement data.
The aim: end-to-end processes from the waste lock to the invoice. doubleSlash brought together functional, technical and operational building blocks to achieve this:
Business objectives, processes and system requirements were structured.
The domain model was transferred to ActiveDB and OpenInformer.
Interfaces were specified and implemented for the interaction of the systems.
Customer data, filling data and billing logic were combined in a single process.
UX and usability were also considered for operational use.
Tests, migration and commissioning ensured data quality and process stability.
Technological Basis
ActiveDB and OpenInformer from bill-Xform important technological building blocks of the platform. The business benefit arises when these systems interact seamlessly with technical logic, robust data flows and innotec's processes.
ActiveDB: innotec uses ActiveDB as the central operating system for living digital twins. The solution digitally maps waste locks, processes event data in real time and provides relevant information for further processing.
OpenInformer: With OpenInformer, innotec processes this data further and uses it to create consumption-based billing. The platform supports transparent and automated billing of individual units.
Integration: Only the combination of ActiveDB and OpenInformer with the right domain model and the appropriate interfaces for mapping the business logic makes it a functioning overall solution.
How Iot Data Is Becoming the Basis for Pay-Per-Use Models
The result is an end-to-end process chain from the waste lock to billing. Bulk and measurement data is systematically processed, linked to billing logic and made usable for monitoring and new services.
This makes IoT data not only visible, but also billable and serviceable.
Billing directly from IoT data
Automate billing instead of maintaining it manually
See usage and consumption in real time
Scalable: 100x more data in one year
Developing new services from IoT data
Do You Want to Transform Iot Data Into Usage-Based Business Models?
doubleSlash supports companies in transforming digital twin use cases from a platform idea into a productive solution: with business logic, architecture, software engineering, integration and data quality.
In an initial meeting or workshop, we clarify together:
Which data sources, systems and usage data are relevant.
How viable billing and business logic can be created from this.
Which architecture, integration and implementation steps are realistic.
