Onboarding Redefined: doubleSlash Focuses on Sustainability and Team Spirit

17. November 2023 | Friday

Starting a new job, new activities and, above all, a new team is initially a challenge for many employees. However, onboarding involves much more than just the start day.

Welcome to the team: getting started made easy

The IT company doubleSlash, based in Friedrichshafen, Munich, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, has developed an onboarding program that is tailored to the needs of new colleagues. "Arriving at the company is just as important as arriving in the field," explains Carolin Kleemann, HR Officer in the HR Services department. "We want to welcome our new employees and help them find their way into the team. Getting started should be easy and fun. That is why we have developed a model that includes additional modules such as information on further training, innovation management, quality strategy, corporate social responsibility, etc. alongside the traditional induction by the HR department and our own team. It is based on our values and is designed to be transparent and inspiring. The fact that it is organized company-wide by colleagues means that you can quickly make new contacts and settle into the doubleSlash team. With Onboarding 2.0, we want to make our doubleSlash spirit tangible."

Onboarding is more than just the welcome event on the start day

The Onboarding 2.0 program ensures that not all introductory events take place on the first day and that new colleagues have time to familiarize themselves with the topics, processes and areas.

The onboarding concept is based on the typical doubleSlash principles of transparency and participation. The modules are created and presented independently by the responsible employees, for example in the form of live events, recorded info sessions, short videos and much more. The new colleagues can plan their participation in the onboarding modules themselves and spread them out over a period of around three months. Because the doubleSlash team is convinced that onboarding is worth more than information overload. Onboarding is added value. The model emphasizes that welcoming new employees is a company-wide team task in order to ensure their successful integration into the team and to maintain it in the long term.

Joint continuous improvement through participation

As with all doubleSlash projects, the model undergoes continuous reviews and feedback loops. Based on the feedback, Onboarding 2.0 can be further adapted. "We are very proud to be able to set up such projects together, evaluate them together and develop them further. This not only makes it easier for new employees to get started, but also gives existing colleagues the opportunity to contribute their wishes and ideas," says Carolin Kleemann.
