Girls' Day: Schoolgirls Get a Taste of IT

27. March 2014 | Thursday

The nationwide Girls' Day took place today for the 15th time, giving girls from the 5th grade onwards an insight into working life in technology, IT and natural sciences. Among the seven participating companies in Friedrichshafen, doubleSlash also opened its doors to ten interested girls aged 11 to 14 for a look "behind the scenes".

Driven by the questions "What is IT anyway?" and "What do you do there?", the curious schoolgirls seized their opportunity and, under the guidance of our HR officer Leonie Hlawatsch, gained an insight into the companyand the apprenticeships on offer.

What are the tasks? What does a normal working day look like? What qualifications do I need to work in this profession? Sandra Ströhle and Micha Mailänder answered all these questions based on their experience as an office administrator and computer scientist. In the spirit of Girls' Day, they successfully dispelled any reservations about technical and technology-related professions.

After a tour of the offices, the morning ended with a concrete insight into "The world of IT" in the form of a small competition. Divided into two teams, the girls had the task of assembling a computer based on a given picture –, which they managed to do with flying colors in a very short time.

Once again, Girls'Day proved to be a successful format. In the feedback round, the girls were unanimous: training or studying in one of the professions presented is definitely conceivable. "We are particularly pleased that the girls emphasized the good working atmosphere at doubleSlash," says Leonie Hlawatsch.

Keep it up girls! Perhaps we will soon be able to welcome one or two of them as interns or trainees.
