DoubleSlash Offers Universal Interface for the Development of New Telematics Applications

With the "Telematics API" from doubleSlash Net-Business GmbH, software manufacturers and service providers who offer systems for fleet management of mixed fleets can add real-time status and consumption data to their solutions via a universal web interface (REST API). This enables them to develop new telematics applications for their customers and integrate them into existing fleet management solutions, scheduling or ERP software.

For example, providers of fleet management solutions are expanding their software to include new pay-per-use models. "The networking of services makes business models and services possible that were previously unthinkable: From availability-oriented car sharing offers and parking systems to objectively measurable driver test trainings and the optimization of tire usage in relation to fuel consumption," says Simon Noggler, Business Consultant at doubleSlash.

The "Telematics API" from doubleSlash was designed from the outset as an open, universal standard interface of a RESTful API; providers therefore retain a high degree of flexibility in their software architecture, regardless of whether they develop the software solution in Java, C# or PHP. Thanks to the telematics interface, they can quickly and easily adapt software and services to the needs of their customers in future and thus provide them with additional added value.

A small adapter (OBD2 telematics device), which users plug into their vehicle's diagnostic interface, is all that is needed to transfer the telematics data from the vehicles. This enables functions for

Live tracking of all vehicles

Thanks to vehicle location and real-time vehicle tracking, fleet managers know where their vehicles are or have been at any time. Users also have access to vehicle-relevant information such as speed, mileage and fuel consumption—at any time via their PC, tablet or smartphone.

Proactive maintenance

Early information about service appointments enables optimal planning to minimize fleet vehicle downtime.

Economical driving

Driving behavior can be measured by transmitting consumption and speed values. Vehicle profiles, which can be created using these values, optimize consumption and vehicle wear and thus support a more environmentally friendly and safer use of the vehicle fleet. The advantage: accident risk and repair costs are reduced.

Geo Fencing

Users are alerted as soon as a fleet vehicle leaves a defined zone. This makes it possible to check compliance with contractual framework agreements or detect vehicle theft at an early stage.

A digital logbook

Automatic and complete documentation of all fleet journeys makes a manually kept logbook superfluous.

Telematics API as part of the telematics service platform

The "Telematics API" is part of the "Telematics Service Platform" from doubleSlash. The Telematics Service Platform is a web-based solution that makes it possible to provide vehicle status information in real time. It is characterized by the fact that it can be easily integrated into the existing fleet management system landscape. Another part of the Telematics Service Platform is the "Telematics Cockpit". It offers companies a flexible rental solution that allows operators of even small and medium-sized fleets to benefit from the advantages of a fleet management solution or to supplement existing fleet management solutions with telematics data.
