The IT service provider doubleSlash Net-Business GmbH, headquartered in Friedrichshafen, stands for advanced IT solutions and is active in fields such as connected mobility and subscription management. However, the company does not only show its commitment in its work with customers: doubleSlash also actively promotes internal initiatives, for example in the health sector. For example, the cycling and running campaign is taking place again this year. From April 1 to October 31, 2024, employees will collect kilometers for a good cause. This year's campaign is particularly focused on team commitment and technical implementation through an internal project.

Course of the cycling and running campaign
The campaign runs for six months and aims to collect as many kilometers as possible—whether on the bike or on the running track. The employees compete in their organizational teams. The team with the most kilometers will receive a prize in the fall.
So that the kilometers can be calculated fairly, the running kilometers are converted into cycling kilometers. It is therefore not about the pace, but the distance covered. To further boost motivation during the months, there are special events where employees can collect extra kilometers.

The challenge: more than just collecting kilometers
In addition to the opportunity to keep moving and take part in challenges throughout the year, the 2024 cycling and running campaign has a higher goal: the common good. As in previous years, the total number of kilometers collected during the campaign will be converted into a donation at the end, which will benefit a charitable cause.

Internal project setup
The kilometers are collected via tracking apps. However, to ensure that the data can be accessed and compared in real time, the company has launched an internal initiative. The development of a special web application by an internal project team of junior employees is not only a technical achievement, but also underlines the promotion of junior employees at doubleSlash. A total of three junior employees from Stuttgart and Karlsruhe worked together on the project with the support of two permanent employees.

"I had an incredible amount of fun working on this project. It was a great opportunity to work in a team, to put my technical knowledge into practice and to see how our joint work directly bears fruit and is used," says Kevin, intern in the software development department at doubleSlash in Karlsruhe.

By working on the web application, which allows sports performance to be recorded and evaluated almost in real time, not only are technical skills honed, but teamwork and project management skills are also promoted. This approach enables junior staff to gain practical experience in real projects while making a significant contribution to the company's internal community and social commitment. The result is a platform that not only simplifies participation, but also automates evaluation and encourages healthy competition within the company through a clearly structured dashboard, providing insight into current performance and total kilometers accumulated at any time.
